Sensational Swiss Alps

We are finally here in the stunning Swiss Alps!

To say that this was a much-awaited spring trip would be an understatement. My husband and I have been talking about coming here since we first moved to England and, two years later, we’ve finally arrived.

I’ve heard many stories about the memorable and unforgettable impression that Switzerland has brought to many travelers. Most first-hand accounts I’ve encountered would have been from my Auntie Myrna who have sworn that this place is one of her most favorite in the world. Lo and behold, every single detail from her endearing stories has been so true! Some words that she used to describe it to me before going were breathtaking, fascinating, extraordinary – basically the vision of panoramic perfection – a kind of mountainous paradise.

It feels like a lifetime since my husband and I first realized that we wanted to go here. Now that it’s finally happened, we’ve been counting down every day, minute and second for the chance to go back. Everything about it was ridiculously beautiful as you can see in some of the photos I’m sharing today on my blog.

We first started our journey with a scenic train ride from Luzern’s city center into a small Swiss town called Stans. From there, our ride as we started to ascend 1,850 meters above sea level was like a journey through history. It’s not every day that we are drifted away on a funicular that dates back in 1893 after all. It actually broke the record for being the world’s longest funicular at that time. I sincerely almost cried when I saw the picturesque views when we started to cruise upwards by way of a wind-in-our-hair convertible-style cable car – the very first roofless cable car in the world, apparently.

As we continued to ooh and ahh while looking at spectacular views of the valley of Engelberg and the canton of Obwalden from a distance, we legitimately got carried away with the beauty of it all. Truly, the world is a canvas and God is the most remarkable artist in this masterpiece called life. Introspectively, the fresh mountain air was intensely refreshing. We pondered upon what a vivid reminder it was of how far we were from our beloved home city that is Los Angeles. We gave thanks to Him as we genuinely feel humbled to have been educated a great deal by means of all the opportunities He has granted through our travels.

Upon stepping foot on the peak of Stanserhorn, our range of vision was greeted with a spectacle of dazzling snow-capped mountains as our view. The moment we laid eyes on the Swiss Alps, we knew it was a special moment to remember forever. Standing on innovative Swiss terraces and vista points on the steepest of stilts, this place is certainly not for those who have fear for heights. But for the free-spirited, being on top of the mountain was exhilarating and liberating.

There were more locals than tourists in Stanserhorn – a desirable situation for my husband and I who try to avoid the tourist crowds. A revolving restaurant sits atop this mountain for those who fancy a four-course dinner on candlelight amidst the soaring summits. We ate the best macaroni and cheese dish of our lives that day on the Alps. Who knew it was originally a Swiss fare?

One thing was certain – with the gleaming sun and the towering pikes contouring our every perspective, the high-reaching Swiss Alps is a marvelous extravaganza not just for the curious but also for the explorer, the speculator and the romantic. Prepare to be sentimentally nostalgic with fond memories after your trip here as it certainly achieved that for us.
