Must-Try Brunch at The Oitavos, Cascais

2

It was a Friday morning when we first had breakfast at Hotel The Oitavos.

It was quite laid-back that day and so the breakfast buffet came entirely in à la carte instead. I didn’t mind this at all since the food would come out as fresh as it could be.  Our kind server, Maria, was quite warm and friendly.  When we sat down, she quickly offered a breadbasket, which have some of the most delightful madeleine, croissants, chocolate au pans and Portuguese egg tarts (commonly called as pasteis de nata) with a side of luscious spreads such as butter, hazelnut, strawberry, orange, peach, and honey.  I know, options galore!  She also served us some hot chocolate and cappuccino, a pleasant way to start the morning.  The sizes of the pastries were all mini sizes so it was quite easy to finish each unique piece without wasting anything. I like that.

We were served a fruit platter featuring the sweetest mango, pineapple, kiwi, pears and papaya.  The fruits were very delicious – entirely fun, juicy, and just produced.  It was so good that I asked for more mangoes and papayas!  Speaking of fresh, they also have a brilliant collection of natural juices: orange, tomato, and peach. Honestly, all three were so incredibly refreshing!  The healthy juices were blended without flaw.  Colorful and invigorating, everything you need to feel supreme.

Now onto the excellent breakfast à la carte!  I had the house specialty eggs benedict and an enjoyable crepe. I’d like to call the eggs benedict: “back to basics.” They really emphasized the modesty of their hollandaise sauce.  Though simple, it was very good and quite impactful.  I love the ease of the recipe the chef used.  It’s also not rich and for that I’m thankful.  The crepe itself was also just a classic crepe but the chocolate sauce marveled me, as it was actual cocoa and not syrup.  It had a fantastic dark chocolate taste.  Our breakfast was served with a side of pork and turkey sausages. The Oitavos really picks out only high quality ingredients and I’m certainly impressed.

The next morning, they had the buffet layout where they featured their pastries, cheese, meats, potatoes, in a traditional English breakfast style.  The egg entrées, such as poached eggs and omelets can be ordered from the server.  Of course, I had my favorite eggs benedict again.  Delicioso!  It’s genuinely one of the best eggs benedict I’ve ever had in a hotel!  Our terrific server, Maria, was there again and she took wonderful care of our breakfast experience.  Obrigado!
