History wasn’t really something I was interested in back when I was growing up. I was always more excited to learn about the recent and contemporary.  It was only when I started living in Europe that I realized what I’ve really been missing out on.  History runs so deep into our culture in which impacts each and every person in some way. We owe it to ourselves to look back in the past events that transpired and that shaped our societies today.  Amsterdam is one of those cities that won’t fail to bewitch and beguile you in every single way.  Here I was, standing in the original dam square taking in some of the most charming and fascinating buildings, monuments and landmarks dating as early as the 16th century.  I never thought that medieval and modern details can coexist yet it does so beautifully and gracefully in this urban city of Amsterdam.  Steps from here are the neoclassical Royal Palace, the 15th Century Gothic New Church, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and the National Monument memorializing the victims of World War II.  The dam embodied the first channel among the communities on the sides of the Amstel River.  Apparently, this is one the greatest historical inner city of Europe.  When touring the world, one will certainly acquire a taste for the arts and culture.  As I allowed myself to grow organically with my surroundings, I felt myself change, opening up to new worlds and discovering treasures I never knew I wanted to see.  Making memories while wandering the winding, slender streets by the waters gave me a taste of the allure this city possesses.  A medieval avant-garde village and a magical floating city all in one, Amsterdam surely romanced me in an old-fashioned yet cutting-edge way.
