Truffle Party at Catari, Mykonos

3

Little Venice, the famous Mykonos windmills, beautiful white churches, fabulous shops and boutiques, and the most gorgeous sunset makes up the setting of this fantastic, quaint pizzeria in this famous island.

Catari Pizzeria is recognized as one of the best, most authentic Italian restaurant in the isle.  Located in one of the central alleys of Mykonos town, this outdoor restaurant blusters in delightful canary hues steps away from sea.  Certainly, one will not miss the unique yellow door welcoming both locals and tourists to dine in and grab a bite of their excellent tasting pizza.

Mykonos, for me, absolutely has a different flair in comparison to other Greek islands.  Despite the casual vibe of the place, the town is brimming with sophisticated travelers.  The ambience in Catari exudes the same aura.  Refined tourists feast in a relaxed atmosphere where they can unwind night after night.  The entirety of Mykonos stays up all night and so does the glorious Catari Pizzeria.

Among the options from its marvelous menu, I couldn’t help but be drawn to its truffle specialties. Eating here felt like a truffle party!  Catari features an incredible truffle pizza on its menu that I knew right from the start had my name on it.  Truffle + Pizza:  Naturally, the flavor was exquisite! It was a crispy thin pizza with the consistency of a slim, low carb pizza. Catari was very generous with the toppings. The pizza had large slices of Carpaccio meat and truffle. The crust had an initial layer of crunchiness followed by a light and soft interior. The strong truffle taste was extraordinarily unique where its truffle cream completely dominates the pizza. Many places I have been to in Los Angeles feature truffle + added ingredients by only using truffle salt or oil. Catari, on the other hand, will douse you with truffle goodness in their food.

Another marvelous selection was the Lobster Truffle Pasta.  As much as I didn’t want to be excessive in my truffle intake that night, I just couldn’t help it!  I was certainly in truffle haven, smitten and loving every single minute of it. This dish was a continuation of the strong blast of truffle flavor. The prawns were enormous – the dish itself can only contain two. It is certainly a large serving enough for two. This pasta is the most popular dish here which is indeed understandable as the delicacy of the lobster and prawns can be wonderfully combined with the strong truffle flavor and may well create the strongest of cravings.

Now if you desire a more healthier option, we also sampled Catari’s swordfish specialty. It was delicious and fresh. The fish was surely soft to chew. What was the impression of my first bite?  The flavors exceed its freshness. The dish was served with a side of grilled vegetables. Most restaurants who usually serve vegetables this way tend to provide pretty dried up vegetables. The way Catari prepared the dish showcased a wonderful grilled BBQ flavor on its exterior keeping the vegetable’s moisture inside.

Of course with all these flavors rocking in my palate, I had to wipe it all clean with a wonderful dose of Catari’s dark chocolate flour-less cake. At first, it looks very simple and bland.  Though once you take a piece of this cake, it is an explosion of dark chocolate emanating a small yet perfect kick from its orange cream. We paired up this dessert with a superb toffee martini. That was also delicious!  I didn’t taste the alcohol at all but I certainly started to feel it.  What a fun boost after a rich flavorful dinner.

If you ever find yourself in Mykonos, this pizzeria must be, without a doubt, at the top of your list to visit. It was shared that the restaurant is most busy after 9 p.m. This also didn’t come as a surprise as Mykonos is quite the party island.
